We got to the land late (2pm) but we were able to drag the PT 6x6 14 footers the 1200 feet into our clearing with the ATV. Didn't bother the ATV one bit. Photos are coming.

The only thing that didn't work was taking the crushed stone. I bought this thing for it http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-202353037/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053 &langId=-1&keyword=gorrila+cart&storeId=10051#.UQ53ZX6kqk0

but it flips over easily on my rugged road and barely holds any rock.

I am trying to figure out an efficient way of hauling things into my land, using the ATV, because in the future I will need to haul: solar equipment, wood floors, insulation, sofa bed, wood stove, and so on - the whole nine yards of cabin build. Any suggestions? I don't feel like spending $400 on a utility trailer.

Another question: I never used a bob cat / tractor or anything like it. I was thinking on renting a mini excavator (that's the one with the "tank style" tracks right?) for the following things to do:

1. Help the shed delivery guy (dragging him) with my shed delivery (he will use the MULE machine - google it)

2. level my 14x14' area

3. dig two holes next to my cabin area to bury two 375g totes

Questions: you think these are feasible for a complete noob to tackle? how long will it take me to do?

To rent the mini excavator for a day is usually about $250 a day plus $125 delivery charge, plus diesel fuel and insurance for it, you are looking at probably $500 for a day. And you would need some sort of training for it before you just jump in and have a go.....you could get hurt big time if you flip it or something...

How much stone do you have? is it there at the bottom of the road already? Get a kids plastic slide boat, fill maybe half way with stone and drag it in with that, lot of trips but would work...

The other alternative would be to forget the stone bed, use the 6x6 treated as foundation, bring in a couple dozen patio blocks and level up a row of 4 of your 6x6s, rows at 4 ft apart would get you to 12 ft, and set it right up on those.....really accomplishing about the same thing...getting it off the ground...

If I will do that kind of foundation, which will save me so much work, I will need to then figure out how to get the shed on it....

This is how they will deliver my shed:

This thing doesn't lift it just pushes and pulls so it won't be able to place it on that foundation.

You might consider dragging stuff out on a 4x8 sheet of plywood.

It will take you a whole day until you can do anything without making a mess, then the second day you can do things and with luck; developed the skill to clean up your mess. It's not the right tool for this stage, you need a skilled operator of it will be a waste of money. If you can hire manual labor for $120 a day you will get much more done. Or pay more and get someone to help who already knows how to do it. It's difficult out to get help out in the boonies, you might have to try friends.

I agree. I watched a video online and it won't be easy to master.

I will try to get someone to do it.

Lol,,,We hear yah,Opt.I haulled every thing in on my old ford 8N tractor.I don't have a front bucket but I do have a dirt scoop ,which could move about a heaping wheel barrel full of dirt or stone at a time. The old scrapper blade could hold about 200 pounds of lumber or materials stacked up on it at a time.It was a real pain in the a-- but it did the job.My drive way was mud and water up to my tire axsils.lol.The worst time was when I lost a whole load of ply wood in the worst possible place I could.Right in the muddy muck hole lowest spot, you know, the spot where the mud can pull your boots right off your feet!lol,,,glad that's all behind me now.lol.
