never heard of code not allowing more insulation for walls, just minimums

We built w/ 2x4 walls. Here, it is against code to cram in over r13 of baffle insulation. I was also shocked but the local lowes even had the code to show me. We did caulk every stud cavity & crack, put r30 in the floor & have r70<? not sure as it buried the sticks in the attic.

This is great! I really commend you and your wife in avoiding a large debt and working within your budget! It is great to see in a young couple - you worked out your wants vs. needs very well! Many happy years in your snug home.

Great job! After 3 years we still are not finished, but are making progress on the weekends.
How have you liked the Natures Head toilet? We are completely off the grid, and this was the toilet I have been considering. Any info from a real user would be appreciated!

Nothing is quite like a flusher, but where not an option I think the Natures Head is a steal. It never smells, only needs a 1amp 12v line. Very easy to empty! I have not one complaint & we've been using it full time for 6months now. 2 people only need change once a month & very simple. Plus you don't have to pay 1800 bucks & then buy a fan & other add-ons. @ 900 bucks it is the cheapest & comes w/ everything, no extras needed & very handy.

Thanks for the info, it is really hard to find user reviews on these things. Sounds like just the ticket to avoid cold dark walks to the outhouse in the middle of the night.

That toilet looks like a Nature's head is it not?

Are you still around?

Getting ready to build our 2nd cabin

I'm quite interested in your 'double stack pillars'
Seems pretty simple and straight forward
Care to elaborate?
