I've been lurking here for about 18 months, I think I've asked like 1 question about dfosson's foundation.

Anyway, my daughter (5) and my dog (5 months) and I are headed down to Tennessee next Saturday with a trailer full of lumber and 5 days (including the 8 hour drive there and home) to build our cabin.

It will be an 8x16 with a 4' porch and single bed in a loft. The trick is that I've pretty much built, roofed and stained the whole thing in my driveway, then disassembled onto the trailer. The only cutting I should have to do on site is the posts for leveling the deck/foundation. Otherwise, should be about 2-3 days of my impact driver tick-tacking away, then some smaller details. Of course, I'm bringing the saws and generator just in case.

If anyone is interested, I'll post pics when I get back. Not much to show now except my garage looking like a lumber yard.

I did my dried in shell in 9 days, working about 6 hours a day. Foundation was in place and lumber pkg delivered. You should be able to set up your pre fab'd unit with ease. Post some pixs.

I did pretty much the samething. I cut and made all window and door framing in the driveway and hauled it out to site. It worked well as I bundled and numbered some wood for easy biuld. The only differance I had to pack in about 400 feet up in a canyon. LOL I lived through it but wasn't easy. LOL Keep us posted sounds interesting and hope you get it closed in the 5 days. I have mine closed in 3 days but had to wait on tin for roof. I just tar papered and put plastic over it till it arrived and all went well. Good luck brother!

Wow, thanks for all the encouragement! I thought I was kinda nuts giving myself this time frame for such a project. I'm trimming down my roof sheathing tonight, then start organizing for the trailer (first on, last off). T-109 hours til I head down. Getting very excited!

Back in time, total build took about 3.5 days, but not many pictures taken, and several are on my daughter's camera and I haven't uploaded them yet. Here's what I do have:

Loaded trailer on the way down.

And just like that!! There's a few around somewhere of my daughter helping me square up the rim joist for the deck, but that's about it. A few additionals/close ups:

Looking good. Couple questions:
- do they require a car seat on a porch swing on a trailer?
- what is the plan for the roof. It doesn't look too stable or pest-proof.
- how will you trim out the porch detail?

Thanks.

I really love all the red touches. Looks like it is the making of loads of fun. How many acres of land do you have.
Please keep the pic's coming.

Those pictures were the 2nd to last day, before I tarred the hell out of the osb roof sheathing and applied rolled roofing.

I'd like to eventually replace the porch supports with cut trees from the property, which is about 6.25 acres.

A possible future option is to tongue-and-groove board all the exposed studs on the inside, which is probably just carry out to enclose the porch roof as well.

The carseat on bench on trailer is optional in 23 states, mandatory in 14, and semi-required if you take a safety course in the remainders.
