My cabin will be 12 foot wide and I lam looking at ideas for front door and front window/. I like a centred door with a window on either side but unsure of width/height of windows or the width of the door. Thoughts? I like a symmetrical look.

go with a 32 inch door the more windows, the less usable wall space

One advantage to moving the door to one side (rather than centered) is that you gain some extra useable wall space. This can be especially important when furnishing a small space. Just a thought.

I like doors off to the side in a small building. That is because the door can open against a wall and if left open does not take up much space.

Window tops should align with the door top; visually most pleasing.

I believe there should be at least one 36" wide door in every building; easier moving larger things in and out.

Most building codes mandate a 36" wide exterior door (at least one). Standard height for windows is 80". If you need even more floor space inside you could use an "outswing door".

I'll third the door to one side. My cabin is 12 ft wide and you will want all the wall space you can get.

Home Depot has a 6' wide door with (2) 18" sidelights for $500ish. can't beat the bang for the buck!
