Good morning everybody. Ive been lurking around here for a while now. Im only a member of two other sites, one being for 1911 owners and the other being for those of us who love to grill, smoke, and bbq. Needless to say, you guys and gals seem pretty dang cool. So here I am. So I took the leap. Bought 6 acres around Tazewell, TN. Found a cool little place called Country Places Inc. Anyhow. I have a construction management backround. So though it was not hands on, I had project managers under me for that, I do have a working enough knowledge to build a small cabin and outhouse. No electric or plumbing to start. Im only turning 32 on the 10th so I will have plenty of time to upgrade down the road. No restrictions on the land what so ever. I live a little over 7 hours away from the new property. Any suggestions to make the process easier? The land is steep and given the distance, I was already thinking of framing the foundation (2x12x16) and exterior walls here at home in 8 foot sections then trucking them down there. Total cabin will be 16x32. Was going to do it in 8ftx8ft sections and put them together when i get there. Was thinking that I want to get the foundation, exterior walls, and roof done and sealed before i start the interior stuff. That way we can still have a roof over our heads while work is being done. Plan on tent camping until it is at this point so the sooner the better. I have the plans hand drawn. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum!
IMHO your plan is the right way to go. With the 7-hour distance from your property, pre-building at home (on your time) will allow you to maximize your limted on-site time. The one question I have is about the access to the build site. Will the driveway support the weight of a loaded down truck and/or trailer (not too steep, or muddy, etc.)? As long as the access road will support your plan, it sounds good.
I would also agree you need to get the exterior secure and the interior dry before you begin any finish work on the interior.

There is a county road that touches my property. There is also a shrared easment road and a start of a cut in drive leading to a flat shelf area im going to expand a little. Muddy when wet im sure. Below is a link to a map of what i bought. Let me know what yall think. I bought tract 2A.

Welcome to the hangout. The friendly folks that we all know and love on this forum are your friends. Unfortunately I'm sure there is scum who will happen upon this sight. Congratulations on the property. It sounds like you have a solid game plan. Make sure you are completely dried in before beginning any interior work. You construction knowledge will be a huge asset. I'm not jellous of the 7 hour distance. I have 3.5 and that I enough for me. Your property looks great!! Keep us updated and good luck.

I do love road trips. Im outside Chicago and have a daughter in Orlando. And i love the drive! 7 hours isnt bad. But thanks, I appreciate the comments and advice!

Welcome to the gang. Great looking place! Looks like you have a solid plan. We are on a similar journey. Our place in the Ozarks is 5 hours from home, it will be a tent camping spot for a while, and we are looking at a 32 x 12.
One tip I could throw in is to make part of each trip for fun as well as for work. Get to know the neighbors, the local businesses, the lakes and rivers, etc..

I'm a couple hours from Tazewell. It is a beautiful area. Had family that lived there for a while. I'm curious how you found it.....

Thank you countryred. It is a couple mins from the Powell River. One of the reasons I choose that land. Erinsmom, I found a place similar to ozarkland.com called Country Places Inc. I was looking for land in East Tn and a buddy told me about them. Owner financed option is what did it for me.
