Hey fellas, I have an old 50 cc honda breeze moped, wondered what you guys thought about mounting 3000w gen to the rear wheel via a belt. Fire that dude up and rev till get 3600 rpm's on the wheel ?
Thought it may get exceptional gph fuel rate.. ??

About the breeze moped... I am a gear head by trade, but that dont make me the smartest grape on the bunch, BUT.....
I think that yes, the motor may initially turn the generator, once a load is applied, I think you may run out of horse power to turn it effectively. This is especially true if it is a two stroke engine and not a four stroke.

i have to agree with karl, you have the rpm and efficiency but not the power you will need. my honda gen is 3500W and needs a 10 hp 4stroke under full load

50 cc is about 3 hp.
you could weld it to a frame and belt it to a delco alternator to charge a 12v battery/bank. just an idea for the motor

now that would work! you can even get a alternator that would produce up to 140 amps @13 VDC

just curious how long would it take a 140a altenator to charge a bank of four 6v golf cart batteries?
hmm seem like they were trojan 355 AH batteries ..?....

I could run some small loads off an inverter for a LONG time on 4 of those.

getting back on topic, most 3k generators have 6-10 hp engines to power. You can use all the belts in the world, but you will never get more than 3hp out of a 3hp engine. In applications which the motor is underpowered, the motor tends to fail quickly.

Another option would be to acquire a PM DC motor of the kind folks use to homebrew wind generator, and fab that to a frame to be driven by your moped. Run that thru a charge controller to your battery bank

4 335AH 6v batteries would run small loads for a long time. As for the charging time for that bank on a car alternator, that would depend on the motor turning to alternator. An chevy 350 would do it faster than a 50cc moped motor :)

HP is just a unit of energy, just like watts. google watts to hp conversion
