Just finished with putting this up.. Still figuring out a way to furnish the insides without too much clutter. Located in the southern Adirondacks on about 80 acres with a small brook and a beaver dam - piece of heaven - Really. Getting here is a mile trek from the nearest road - which adds to the experience.

I have the following in there...
Heat - Do not have space even for a small wood stove - heated by portable Buddy heater (disposable propane tank). Works great for such a small space.
Potty - need a build a small outhouse - the great outdoors for now.
Sitting - Byer Pangean Lounger chair and table - space saving and foldable - have one of each
Sleeping - twin mattress with mattress pad on the ground - mattress will be rolled up and upright during day - not ideal, but I like it.
Cooking - Camp Chef Explorer Series EX-60LW 2-Burner inside attached to 20lb propane cylinder outside.
Water - boiled after collection from brook outside

Will post some pictures of the insides soon...

Very cool. Have you seen the Berkey water filters? Would mount up on the wall out of the way, and provide clean drinking water without boiling.

Relatively inexpensive Murphy bed hardware is available, but you might not have even enough room for that.

Some of the direct vent wall heaters project out only 4 inches or so, but you'd have to haul in a tank.

How do you transport the one mile?

I will look up the Berkey water filter - did not know about this... Good tip.

I did look at Murphy beds and decided that it would take up too much space. While what I have is primitive, works very well in this occassion...

I have to lug in the gas regardless... The transport is a difficult one. I use a dolly in the summer and stock up somewhat for the winter.. Cant use the dolly as it becomes slushy and muddy with the snow. Makes one appreciate the comfort of our regular lives and the rigors faced by people a couple of hundred years ago..

yw beattyorbust.we have to park way down the road and see...we aren't there and no one is past us so all the snow gets plowed and dumped a tiny bit past the neighbors drive.
when we get there mid winter.we have to haul in our water jugs and ice chests and all or foods and clothes and propane tanks.i love it.i think its a kick.one time I had to shovel a path.i had a plastic bag filled with my coffee mug,t.p.and jammies.i would sling the plastic bag way up toward the road and dig myself a tunnel.
yes.i am amazed at how hardy the pioneers must have been and why they died early.lol.
pretty fun and pretty interesting.
we are slowly getting things ready to retire at our cabin.cant wait.times is coming sooner and sooner.
u know.its a start.great fun always.

When using a Buddy Heater or any non vented heater make sure you leave a window cracked. Every year a few people die from not venting a heating device. My cabin is not air tight for that specific reason.
Enjoy your cabin safely.

Check out this water filter and use with a bucket. Many, many excellent reviews. One million gallon guarantee. On Amazon for $50 shipped. Sawyer PointONE All in One Filter
They make smaller personal ones as well for about 20 bucks.

cabingal3...which buddy heater do you have, how many square feet are you heating and in what temperatures are you using it. Thanks

Do you have any pictures of the inside? I am thinking about building a bunkie for when we have family and guests over. Id like to keep it small and make efficient use of the space. It would be nice to have some privacy and not get woken up when someone uses the bathroom at night etc.

I also started using my ice fishing sled to make less trips hauling in when the snow gets to deep to drive close. they are available in many sizes and have high sides so things dont fall out as easily.

First, I love your cute small place. Seems just right for you.
We use a berkey water filter and love it, way worth the cost. Even the kids drink more water because of it. We use the Buddy heater, but cabin is not air tight. We still have a carbon detector anyway to be on the safe side. Works great. We had two running until we insulated some, now we just use the one or we get heated out.

+1 on the Sawyer. We've used one the past 3 years and it's been flawless.
