Winter isn't even over yet and we've already found ticks on us...

Was hoping the ticks wouldn't be too bad this year since we had a cold, long winter. At least the ones we've found were the large ones and not the tiny ones. I had plenty of those last year... (different area).
We plan on spending a lot of time on our new property and camping so we don't want to be covered in ticks all the time.

Anyone have some good experience with products or any tips?

Best tip ever from the Amish: Take an odorless garlic supplement daily. We started doing this last year and it made a tremendous difference in the amount of ticks we would find on ourselves.

Ugh. I heard that because the winter was so cold and long that any ticks that made it through would be the hardy nasty strong ones.

My advise is just the basic ones - tuck your pantlegs into your socks, and wear long sleeve shirts. Check your hair at the base of your neck when you come in from the woods. They like to go there and hand out.

The Amish sure know their stuff too.

buy permethrin in concentrate and dilute to 0.5%, spray on clothing and boots, you can also wash clothing in it to provide lasting effect, there are instructions on the net.

Cool tip about the garlic. Maybe that is why I always get far fewer ticks than my wife and son. I eat more garlic. Sounds like a great excuse to eat some Alfredo!

I am a believer in the odorless garlic supplements for ticks prevention. It works!

Friend quit smoking so chewed nicotine gum. She stank, and never got a mosquito bite! Didn't get ticks, either.

It was funny when the unsuspecting bummed gum

a 1/2 shot glass of apple cider vinegar or a shot of pickle juice every morning...keeps the ticks off...lots of the hunter's /fishermen & forester's use this trick in the south.
