Cool concept, cool backstory:

Finnish Splitting Axe

Be sure to check out the videos. Even if I don t buy the axe, I love the car tire splitting guard.

I'd say - buy Fiscars, just turn the head at the moment of impact, there are lots of videos on youtube how to do it, same effect.

The log he hits with it has no knots. I'm not so sure it would work as well in a knotted chunk.

Loenk is right, I've seen YT videos of guys using regular axes with tire guards, nothing new. Just come downwards with the head at an angle instead of hitting the wood straight on, has the same lever effect. Save your $281 for other things.

Like bldginsp said, I'd like to see it work on some knotted, burled crazy hardwood, like our Whitegum or Jarrah here - rather than frozen, straight grain Spruce (?).

I bet we'd here some Nordic cussing.

Looks cool-I,ll stick with my $4 axe that has been loyal for the last 5 years. It might work great but I,m kinda old school and don,t need a $280 axe to split wood.It might work too well and take all the fun out of splitting wood which is one of my favorite fall activities.Mongo

I do just fine with grandpa's axe. I've replaced the handle four times and the head twice, but its still grandpa's axe, still works the same. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
