I'm the opposite of that. It's sounds as if you are doing all the planning now. That's excellent.
However, unless you are ex military or live in Canada how are you going to be able to care for yourself medically? You will to young to qualify for Medicare.
Curious because I will be retiring early and returning to school after taking a year off to visit family and enjoy our cabin.

I'm in a similar boat, but a few years out... IT guy, looking to retire at 45 on a tight budget (37 now).
How bad are you knees? I've always had knee troubles & figured I could never hike the A.T.
I dropped my base weight & started using trekking poles, which I rely heavily upon. It made a world of difference! Go light or go home.

Love reading everyone comments and it really hits home to me. I am 35 (millennial) and have been thinking to the future for as long as I can remember. I started working on my dream 3 years ago with the help of friends and family it is becoming a reality with every weekend. I have been in management for 10 years and saving as much money as possible to build this dream. I have 2 acres bordering my grandfathers 300 acres. My grandfather generously let me take trees from his land to construct my dream. It has been a challenge but have loved every minute of it. Three years later I have a cabin, water well, and power. I enjoy having access to river, lake, and plenty of hunting land and I hope this will be a place my family of seven can enjoy for years to come. Enjoy reading everyone's comments. Keep dreaming and make it a reality.
