To wit, your little hideaway via Google satellite imaging? If so, do you care?

Our place seems to be pretty well out of view, but on the family ranch we did recently have some inquiries about the ol' boneyard (several old cars) that was spotted by a local salvage yard. Grrrr...

Cool pic!
It's sort of like the old "Where's Waldo?" game, isn't it?

Great image steve. Would need a thermal imager to see you.

Our place is much more wide open and even on a low res google map it shows up. On the flip side we were able to use google to see the main features of our land and plan our drive way and yard locations.

These images you get on google earth are nothing compaired to the us government cameras, those have about 50-75 % more zoom they can read your lic plate on your vehicle.

Google maps satellite pictures are frequently months, if not years, old. It's not like they have a camera trained down that you can look through to see your property. It's a still image of the area and it takes a LONG time to take pictures of everything.

Read the license plate number huh? Isn't it reassuring to know they are able to keep a close watch on us for... our PROTECTION?!

The date of updates are at the bottom left of the google maps. My shack is on it and has only been biult for 8 month's. I use google earth all the time and a lot of the maps are 3 years old.

You can look at Bing too, their images are from 2010 in my area, and lots more detail.

If you use Google earth it has a time span over quite a few years (back to the middle to late nineties). It is pretty weird on how things have changed over time.... It will also do topo and leaves off the trees (winter)

Wow TomChum is right Bing has much better detail... maybe its because the last picture is leaf free... but wow... much more resolution than google. I switch it to birds eye and then the picture with no leaves comes up.

compare with the leaf version above... i can be seen! You can even see my iso container! sheesh.

I just checked Bing and the satellite picture they have looks older then google maps for my cabin. It doesn't even show the road going out to my property and I know that road has been there for 4-5 yrs.

I use bing maps more often than Google. Much better quality but you are right Bzzzzzt, for the most part they are older. I use the Google earth for the time lapse part. my cabin is near a classified area (military) so I am not able to get real close (birds eye) it is blocked out or blurry. Some of the older views are a little better.

Never thought about it --but the pics are there -- the big lodge on the left -- camping cabin to the right. Luckily they can't see the extensive underground tunnel system that connects the buildings to the 16 vaults and bunkers carved into the mountainside : )
