new guy here, just like to say, after months of reading posts on this site, my 68 yr old father and I built our first cabin. lots of great info, thanks for all the help. i'll post pics when i get a chance. thanks again

Welcome to the forum. I have not built my cabin yet ,but I have learned a lot from these guys on here.these guys and gals will lead you in the right way.. Good luck on your cabin build and most importlon HAVE FUN WITH EXPERIANCE !!

we started our project in june 2015, after lots of waiting because of all the snow. (couldnt get survey done to complete the sale ) i spent all winter reading hundreds of posts from this website,also kept referring back to the forum during the build. neither one of us has built anything bigger than a chicken coop, so this was quite the project. Dads retirement dream come true, and only 6 miles from my house! heres a few pics from the beginning

Thanks. definitely made some mistakes along the way, too. we still got alot to do still, like solar, water, propane water heater, etc. this cabin is in upstate ny, got our permit with no problems, neighbors have been real cool too. one of the best pieces of advice to any future cabin builders out there, read and search this forum! oh yeah, craigslist will become your best friend...

more pics, rented that post hole digger, couldnt have done it without. rented a cement mixer, but the generator we bought from tractor supply was too small, so i returned it and found a great one on craigslist for 200 bucks. one of the best buys we made, it has ran flawlessly, all our tools ,saws, compressor, got all 9 piers poured in a day, if you rent that post hole digger, it did a great job, but with all the roots and rocks i was in, it was a little like ridin a bull at times

thanks pizzadude,years of saving, and a little bit of luck. just happened to be taking a back road and i saw this little hand written sign "for sale", we are actually on the road that Millard Fillmore (13th president), grew up on.

That's a great-looking cabin! What are the dimensions?
I grew up in Pennsylvania and my first job out of college was in New Hampshire. Can't tell you how many times I drove through upstate NY, going to visit the folks. I crossed Vermont and NY before scooting down into Erie and Western PA. Beautiful country.

thanks julie2, its 24x28, upstate ny is some of the prettiest country in the land, but taxes and red tape will make you pull your hair out!

Hi. What is the green sheathing you're using? How did you insulate the cabin?

that green sheathing has the vapor barrier in the green part, supposed to cut out the hassle of housewrap. i used the felt as an afterthought for more protection. we have 2x4 studs so that limited us to r-15 pink fiberglass insulation in the walls and ceiling, we are using r-30 rockwool insulation in the floor
