Is it possible for off grid solar to be done on a budget? Yup! With some time and patience we were able to get all our solar items together and installed and only paid 20% of what it would have cost us! Check out our video about our solar https://youtu.be/nGbFBTKxXj8

What has everybody else been able to do with their off grid power without paying and arm and a leg?

I bought used panels off Kijiji, charge controllers from Ebay. The most expensive part is batteries and not much of an area to save there. All installed by myself. Not a huge system, but works well for me for my weekending. Full time might need an upgrade.

I got my panels from kijiji. I got my new lithium battery from a crashed Chevy Volt.

I had real bad luck with used inverters. So I now only buy those new. And I buy european. I've been reading some good things about the top tier chinese equipment. so I might have a poke at one of those.

One thing about the op post. it will be interesting how that system works out. Cbrux. If you get a chance. How old are those batteries? Could you post a pic of the insides? Basically shine a light on the plates and lets see them.

I was going to sell my old crowns (395s) when I got rid of them. But when I took them out the plates were very corroded/sulphated. I took them for recycling. 200 bucks!

I have my fingers crossed for you.

I also saw CS280 panels for 215 retail. You know. .70/w is pretty much the retail price now. And that's for hanwah q series.

You've got a great start. Check out my blog for some neat solar innovations. I think you'll like my solar panel hanging system.

Using your booster pack as an inverter is somewhat mute, much greater efficiency would be had using the stand alone inverter directly coupled to the battery bank.
