Hello all....

I am building a couple small cabins on some land i bought.

I am getting the board & batten from a local saw mill, pine that is simply air dried for a couple weeks outside.

It will be 3/4" by 8" Now i did a shed last year and used a horrible stain/paint that my buddy picked color was horrible.

Anyways, on the shed, we stained the sides/edges of the board before putting it up and then stained the outside, we did not do inner side. My questions is, do we really need to do the edges or can we just do the outer facing side only as its very time consuming to do the edges also.

Thanks

P.S. For the history of what we have done on th eland you can check out this link....

I've got some "hunter green" you can have cheap.

I use a spray gun. Way faster.

Paint both sides and both edges before install if you want it to last.
I would do minimum 1 coat on inside and edges and 2 coats on exterior. I use Olympic Maximum solid stain.

Thanks for the replies I will checkout that brand of stain.
Never thought of using a spray gun for stain...

Agree with coating both sides and edges before installation. Also agree with the spray gun if you are trying to conserve time. I would suggest you consider a second coating over the original stain with a uv inhibitor of some type of clear exterior grade varnish, polyurethane, etc.
