I've got my well putting out much cleaner water but still some remaining silt, I'll continue to try pumping it out. In the mean time, a friend gave me his old pool filter, big round thing about 2x3 that uses sand, couple hundred pounds my guess. Would this be a reasonable means to filter out any remaining silt? The well water tests clean otherwise.
If so, the next question is where to locate it. My water tank is 150ft. uphill from my well. The tank is 20ft. above my cabin. I normally use gravity feed to the cabin but have a 12v pump plumbed in for when I need the extra pressure. I'm thinking the filter could either go before the water tank, meaning my well pump would have to pump through it, or just after, with gravity feed the only means of passing water through the filter.

Between your well and tank ,to keep the silt out of the storage tank ,
it is best to put any filters before storage..you will need to backwash the filter to keep the sand free of silt .

Thanks Just, good point! Yes the filter has a backwash lever. So before the tank, then should it be down at the well or up at the tank? At the well means the pump would have to work harder, in addition to the 200ft. head it has already? Or up at the tank? Or same difference?

there will be a considerable amount of waste water when you back
wash so the best place to dispose of that I would recommend.

ILFE posted a pic and description of a water purification filter.
Just has a good design too.
You could also use a settling tank and then pump from clear water?

The filter you have sounds like a good filter,my question is will this filter handle the volume of water that the submersible pump will produce. It doesn't sound like you have a pressure tank or pressure switch in the system, or a bypass valve. With this closed filter you could create some high head pressures and if let run to long this way could damage the pump especially as the filter starts to plug up with sediment. Just something else to thinks about.

I left my new to me filter at my cabin the other day without taking a photo of the label, darn, but they are rated in GPMs. By the web site above they run from about 25-50, and it's ok to under pump, not over, so I should be OK. Going out there later today or tomorrow. Think I will put the filter in the well shack since that's where the pump and generator are, so I can quickly shut it off if need be. Also as Just said, a good place to dump backwash. It's light as a feather empty but full of sand, better be where I want it..
Oh, also, they make sand filter sand, expensive, but the pool place I called said they just use #20 bags from the quarry.

Get a pressure gauge and plumb that in ahead of the inlet (or at the inlet) of the filter. By watching the pressure you'll be able to tell when the filter starts to clog up and needs to be backwashed.

Hi Rick,
Thanks, pressure gauge in place. First test was yesterday. Sand has gotten expensive around here! Last time I bought some for sand blasting it was 4 bucks a bag, now it's 15. So I bought 300 pounds, thoughtfully decided to put the filter down next to the well, poured in the sand and filled with water. Fired up the pump, pumped some water through the filter, looking good. Hooked up the hose going up to my tank (100+ ft. elevation) and abruptly blew the O-ring out of the filter top. Got to thinking these filters are probably not made to handle a bunch of outlet pressure just pumping back into a pool. Wish I had put it up by the water tank but now it weighs 300+ lbs. Arg. I have a new O-ring to try...
