Hi,
I'm still really early in the daydreaming / planning phases. I know, though, that access will be carry in only. So I've been considering foundation options.
The land is in NW Wisconsin. One thought is to set posts in below the frost line, but getting concrete (and water and tools) seems like a drag. Anybody have experience with polyurethane foam as a replacement? Apparently there is a "new and revolutionary" formulation?

Why trust your investment to some foam in the ground. Do it correct and it will never haunt you later.
Get in touch with Joe at Techno Metal Post of South East Wisconsin, he can engineer and install a proper helical pile foundation.

I like helical piles.
Note Sika says "Do not use for structural posts (piles, etc.) or posts under tension (clothesline posts, flagpoles, gate posts, etc"

Nothing wrong with placing the dirt back around the post and packing it in place with a mushroom head digging bar. Do it in layers. You can actually pack all the dirt you removed in around the post. Takes a little muscle but the dirt is free.

Have you taken stalk of any local materials that
are nearby ? i.e. large flat rocks ,gravel ,wood sutable for posts ..
If your plans are not to big a floating base may be more practical .
