So I'm installing this wood/coal cook stove for my primary source of heat,but I need a back up heat sorce. Obviously propane is my only choice.I need somthing that can come on at 50 degrees to take over if the wood stove goes out befor I can stoke it back up.It's gotto heat a 20x30,well insulated cabin befor my water supply setup freezes.I really don't want to have a gas heater that need's to be on all the time just turned down low.Preferably a heater on a thermostat set at 50 degrees.Pilotless ignition would be nice.I have read about ventless heaters just adding water vapor and fumes to your living space,so perhaps a vented propane heater that can be on two-30 lb tanks.Any of my cabin dwelling friends ever researched this topic?

there is no such thing as a safe propene ventless heater any one who tells you different is (^%*&*( get a wall vent heater with a battery setup and you will be warm & alive !!!!

You don't even need a battery. Most vented wall heaters use a thermostat that doesn't need electricity. Just hook it up and go.

Most older quality gas space heaters by warm morning and siegler worked on automatic operation without an electric hook up. Of course they have to be vented though a proper flue for gas. And a second heater takes up room. A wall heater does have that advantage but my fear is they don't get near the heating ability from being built on the wall as a free standing unit would have. Plus in an emergency either of those two are capable of heating a fairly large area depending on the btu ratings of the stoves. For a small cabin a 30,000 btu stove would more than do the trick. I think years ago I also had a 20,000 Moore heater which is another quality old heater. The trick though with anything old is getting one that still functions properly which most do and some don't.
