Hi friends,
I am installing vertical shiplap siding (with a drainage plane) on my cabin, however I made a mistake when procuring my wood (I got it used), which is that my trim is the same thickness as my siding. FACEPALM. I can't return the trim board, and am not looking to buy excess of what I need given my budget.
I am considering installing the trim on TOP of the siding. Both trim and siding are each 3/4'' thick, so all together wouldn't be enormously thick. I would run siding right up to the windows, and trim on top of it.
Thoughts on this approach? How would you caulk around the windows if you took this approach.

You can do that but should also do some type of jam extension away from the window.

I'd consider shimming out the window trim instead. I've seen this done around window flanges and such....
One method I've seen is to add pan head screws to the back of the trim and adjust the screws out to shim the trim to the right distance....

Use charred wood instead, it will last long and you won't have to replace for a long time... Degmeda.eu accepts custom orders so you could ask them to craft you siding materials for your cabin construction

Could you use so me of that Z flashing and go with the same side siding as trim?
