...er cabins or homes nearby that can be seen from public roads, those owners most likely went through the permit process. Many of those who have jumped through the hoops and paid the fees may not take kindly to someone building something w/o a permit.

I would give the county building dept a call, I've found the small county planners out here in the west to be extremely laid back and helpful. I'm not in gunnison county, but ultimately our buildin...

My family has some land in Gunnison County in Colorado. I've discovered recently that you can build a 120 sq ft cabin in Gunnison County and not need a building permit (as long as it's not over 120 sq ft). Does anyone have experience or knowledge about this loophole? When looking through Gunnison County's ...

... / Gals, I wanted everyone's opinion in with the questions I want to ask a realtor of a parcel of land I may be interested in. It's over 100 acres, in an unincorporated municipality (no building permits required), no roads (just lumber roads), no services. I'm not interested in roads or services, I can manage on my own. I do plan on getting Title Insu...

Building permits are not issued in unorganized townships, as there is no municipal authority to do so. There are, however, unorganized townships that are subject to Minister...

As I said in my previous post we needed a permit and got one. Not a building permit but as the above article states a zoning permit and it had to be approved by the board. We had to draw up a map of our prop...

Looking for more clarity on: 1- Number and sizes ...including max height, of code compliant buildings allowed without permit and with permit. 2- Is having only composting toilets allowed ?     ...cratching your head here and there. These plans are not instructional material for beginners, they are minimally complete plans for experienced builders. They say there is enough for submittal for a building permit, so the basics should be there. For $25 I'd say it's worth it, but again, I haven't seen their plans.

Today I showed up at my property in Ontario to find a building official had made his way onto my land and posted a stop work order on two sheds I have built. One is 8x8 and the other is 8x12. His written reason for the stop work order was his cl...

We have a section of land in Nevada in settings very very similar to yours and looking at your pictures and plans have given me some hope in terms of building on our property (which is mostly used by a rancher two miles down the road for grazing his cows). Questions are as follows: - Was the permitting process a pain? - D...

My recomendation is to clear it with the municipality. If the dock, building exists in the plans and you simply repair, you are good. If it is not in the plans but you have evidence they were there before laws changed I believe you can get them grandfathered...

But, in the long run, I'll be glad I did this, because eventually I can add to this building and make it part of an approved permitted R-3 residence. Here's a pic of the back side, toward the slope, which had to be dug deeper due to the slope, causing...

...hem. They can be used for mobile homes as well. I used the 30" ones but they offer them in 15",40", and 48" models. The brackets on the frame are actually from UniStrut. Per our building inspector the 30" were just fine for our area and we needed to be 1ft from the corners and aprox 6ft of spacing between each one. They just started allowing the use of these on ...

You guys are great! I'm getting so anxious. Ar is having trouble deciding between post and pier or concrete foundation. Not happy about the tax and building permit situation but he wants what he wants. Still contemplating the 14 x 24 rather than 10 x 15. At this point I just want a cabin. Any cabin. I'll be ...

We go to Anna Gene Park often. The building inspector, Brian, is awesome as are all the township people. They really bent over backwards to help us get our permits-we had trouble with our bridge permit...

...But many rural areas of PA recognize the "Recreational Cabin Affadivit". The RCA replaces the bulding permit and allows you to build most cabins without being required to adhere to the UCC building codes (sewer and possibly other local permits may still required however). The RCA does carry with it several restrictions. Certain structures tha...

In a couple years we'll be building a smaller 10x20 shed and I will take the double doors off the cabin to use for it and we're either putting in a sliding patio door or window in the spot. Seeing as this is larger than what most tiny homes are, it would seem that we are out of options in Ontario except for building a something that is 108 sq. ft. I'm not even sure that technically allowed because it's supposed to be used for tool sheds and things like that. If they sa...
