I just bought 2 brand new in the box sportsman inverter generators for $100 a piece. They are the 1000 watt surge models.
They have 4 left. I am thinking about getting a couple more. I looked them up and they are $249 from northern tool, and higher other places. Seems like a good deal.

For a lot of my uses a small one would work....just. Are those 2 stroke? I do like my 2K peak Lil' Champ(ion), maybe about 40#. Not too bad if I don't have to carry very far.
Wonder if the Sportsman will run a corded elec chainsaw?

It's 4 stroke.
I just plugged in a harbor freight electric chainsaw. After I read your ? Ran it fine. I don't want to push too hard during the break in. Also ran an angle grinder no prob.
The12 volt battery charge outlet is putting out a pretty steady 14.9/15 volts. So I assume that wouldn't smoke a battery if you charged it.

Does it look like this? I have owned one of these for about 3yrs and at 100hrs it started knocking, blowing smoke and shutting off. I almost tossed it in the garbage. I then as a hail Mary tried adjusting the valves and it runs like new. All I do with mine is put 30a at 12v. It will run nearly 12hrs doing that with a 0.5gal tank full of fuel. There also very quiet.

This is the one.
I've had a sandstorm 4000 duel fuel for quite a while and have never had a problem.

Brett do you remember what you set the valves at? Maybe I should write it in the owners manual
Just in case.

I cant remember. I do know that at about 90hrs it should be done because that's when it started running badly.

Had one of those die on me earlier this year, in the middle of showing a drive in move (just me and a pal fortunately). Started knocking and smoking. Might have been my fault, had it a few years and no maintenance. Pulled it apart, plenty of valve clearance. Felt rough to turn over, maybe piston or lower end. Gave up and tossed it. Reviews are good for most part, maybe just mine..

Damn you guys are lucky.. we don't have any cheap options like that up here.. 1000W would even work for charging my batteries on cloudy days.

1kw is really pushing it. Even 700w is for continuous. I'm pulling 400w and feel like that's all I would expect out of the thing for hours on end. The only reason I bought mine was to charge my 12v bank at 30a. It does that very good, very quiet and very cheaply.

I have the 2000W (I think that's the size) Sportsman dual fuel generator and it's worked fine so far. I've only ever run it on propane to avoid gumming up the carburetor, a barbecue size bottle runs it for around 18 hours.

Brett. Do you or have you used the 12 volt output?

I mentioned earlier, I have the dual fuel sportsman Sandstorm 4000. I run it off lp and gas during major power outages. I've had no problems. It runs 2 fridges, 2 freezers a window ac unit and all the other stuff. I don't run the water heater all the time tho. Only when everything else cycles off.
I put stickers on things when I buy them to help keep track. I bought it Sept. 2018.

I have used the 12v output. Just for jumping a battery though. Its output is un regulated and I believe I have measured it at 18v before.

To charge my FLA battery bank I use a 120v to 12v charger.

When I first got this aboit 3 yrs ago they also sold the same model with parallel ports. I looked at the wire diagram of one of these and the parallel ports are just jumped off the 120v legs. Nothing special but the plugs.

Lol. How ironic. I literally just got finished changing the oil and servicing all my generators.
Was washing my hands..... Then boom.....
Power Outage!
Oh well. I wonder what the people without solar power and generators are gonna do? Lol
My life hasn't changed.
