I put one in last fall (zero prior experience). It wasn't too bad... Watched a lot of YouTube videos ahead of time.

Yup put a 12k 120v unit in my 750sqft cabin. Best thing since sliced bread..and I have central air in my house. I would never install anything else but mini splits ever again.
I bought the cheapest 12k unit I could find. Installed it, vacuumed it down and let her rip. I did use the flange sealant they sell for the fittings. No torque wrench, no nitrogen. Works really well. In full cool/heat it uses about 1100w. In low it uses under 250w. I run it and the rest of the cabin off a xantrax 1200w inverter. I just dont use the microwave when its on.

We're putting on a small addition to our cabin this fall. We currently have a 15A 240V circuit that runs baseboard heaters in the main cabin, and then of course the wood stove for cold weather. I'm debating replacing the baseboards with either one larger 2-head mini-split, or two separate single-head units, with one serving the addition. Will watch this thread for more wisdom!

How do these units handle intermittent use in cold weather? Say you want to turn power off to cabin for a few weeks at a time, then arrive at sub-zero temperatures and power up. The Senville manual seems to warn against this. Senville Installation Manual

I have seen Youtube videos of the Mr Cool units being installed. The lines are pre-charged, just connect and go. I'm putting one in mine.

The Senville manual seems to warn against this. At 0*f you would be useing the outdoor grid strip heater so basicly useing electric heat. At that point there not very efficient anyway so I would use either a wood stove or a $30 space heater.
I didnt buy mine for heat even though I have used it for heat on 50*f days. Where as before I would have started a fire in the wood stove.

We did a Senville unit at our cabin 2 1/2 years ago. We were able to get a 220V unit much cheaper than the 120V. So I installed the 220V version and use a dry transformer to run it from my 120V inverter and generator.
It has worked flawlessly ever since. We use it mostly in the summer for cooling, but have used it in winter numerous time. Works great even down to -20C!

I put in a 115v on my houseboat a few years past. Watched a few videos. It was super, super easy , just pay attention to location. Going to install another in a rental soon.
I bought a Mr Cool, scratched and dented, save a few bucks, 1 1/2 ton from their web site. Already pre-charged and equipped with special valves to hold the charge until installed. Edit: I preinstalled stringers on the roof, glassed them, installed the necessary holes and ran the 12-2 romex as required. When the unit arrived I was able to have it running in 3 hours, from unboxing. Actually could have had it running in much less time but wanted it one and done correctly. No service ever required. Recommended.
