Here in south central Wisconsin, and my friend up in Minnesota about 1 hr south of Canada had -37 (but was disappointed it didn't break the -40 mark, LOL). We might get a high today of -10, then a fall off and be a repeat for tomorrow. My home NG forced air furnace for our little 940sf place is barely keeping up, we are supplementing with solar gain from the big south windows and a 1400w electric heater in the living room. Got a new battery in one car and the charger on the old car to keep it warm and topped up (no garage). Snowsuits, dbl mittens, trooper caps, face masks are on the ready but Im only planning on mailbox and back. Sure hope our electric grid doesnt go down, my 5kw gen is a few miles away and I failed to prep it for a deep winter use ; starting it could be an issue.

I don’t know how you handle it, must be nice being young.
This morning at the cabin it was 40. My night log had expired when I got up, took some kindling and small logs to get things going. Gives me something to sit by with my coffee. Got up to 70, our usual feeling good temp, just in time to head for the grid.
Hang in there. Lots in the news about your cold front.

+50 here at the moment, but 15" of white stuff and frigid starting tomorrow afternoon. We got the genny, fuel and a truckload of locust (the closest tree to anthracite) up to the house last night and I'm getting ready to dose the traps and shut down water here at the job. My wife is baking a big batch of emergency cookies, can't be too careful. Stay warm!

I really wanted to get to the cabin one more time before shoulder surgery in a week and a half, but tonight's forecast is around 0°F which makes the outhouse seat really cold and the expected foot and a half of the white stuff tomorrow night means the road may be impassable for the next week... we'll see, but it's not looking likely.

No snow to speak of at our cabin. Over the last 20 years there have been less than a hand full of late January's when we could drive up . We spent a few days but came home today. The storm is developing in our neck of the woods. But it appears we may be on the western edge and not get a pile of snow. But one never knows until it is over, and there are 4 miles of twisty, mountain mainly dirt road with up and down grades that never see a snow plow. I'd rather not have to deal with that anymore.
32 F when we woke and 34 F a few hours later when we left. It may drop to 18 or so. That is + degrees.

-33F At my cottage this morning. Luckily I’m not there. Although I spent a week there in these temps a few years ago and still enjoyed myself. But the woodstove got a workout
I cut a lot of wood that week and as long as it wasn’t too windy it was ok outside working

Slept in, was at -16 @ 7:45, up to -11 just now @ 9ish Watching our weatherman it looks like our cabin is @ -22. When it is this cold we dont get snow to speak of, it's all staying well south of WI, and though we could drive into the cabin we aint going either.

Crazy weather! Snowing at the cabin right now with a possibility of 8" - 18" of snow but highly unlikely it seems this year. Friends up there haven't even been able to get the snowmobiles out, just not enough snow. This is at 9500' just a few miles east of the Continental Divide! Overnight temperature was 22* F and right now right at 24*F
Friends stopped by the cabinntwo days ago to reset our router and were able to drive right to the door!

Well damn. FWIW. Not a cabin related image, but here's our paltey less than one inch of snow here at home. Under that is a layer of ice frozen to the concrete driveway. It's a ski hill.

Hey Leftie, how’s it today? No snow here on the coast, cold though, high 30s for us weenies.
I was raised a righty, baseball etc. but after so many years of building and wrenching I’m mostly ambo. Left handed writing still looks like a 5 year old though.

After several days of -30 -> -20 Celsius, I finally decided to fire up the ol Woodstove. This is a high efficiency one with Reburn tech and while the smallest I could get (24"x18" outer dimensions), it makes a LOT of heat and fast. You can sit in front of it and watch the smoke get pulled into the tubes and out to reburn the gasses and it is almost hypnotic to watch "the dance". I don't use it often because it makes so much heat. even when there is only 1 log on slow burn in it. Now I am sitting here in shorts & t-shirt with the window open as the house is up to 29 degrees with windows open a crack to let cool in... Gee wiz, heating the outside LMAO. Ohh well, heading for a Balmy -18 today... almost Shorts & T-Shirt weather outside...

They tried to make me right but it didn't work .
Only a couple inches and a little bit of sleet thus far here, 15F this morning. Right now they are saying we'll be on the rain/sleet line this afternoon. The high tunnel plastic was 5 years old, normal life, and ripped at both end peaks. We only have strawberries in there at one end right now. The plan was, and is, to replace it this spring but we decided to just cut it off yesterday to avoid having to babysit it through the winter. Several tunnels collapse around here every substantial snow if they don't get cleared.

We had -6 this morning ~7 and now @2:46 its 6f which will be the high of the day. Looks like we will wake tomorrow ~ -10 and I have the leave 9:15 for an hour and 45min drive to my dentist, how's that for a kick in the teeth! Forecast here looks like we will not get a break on this cycle for a week

Went to look at my camera this morning but decided against it until it warms and the sun is up high... showing only 5% charge. Don't want to drain it and have it reset. I think it was negative temperatures up there today after the storm passed yesterday and it cleared overnight. I did peek yesterday afternoon and it looked like maybe an inch or two but the driveway and the south facing hillside were bare.

We rescued the dog several times, he's got no traction on this crust. It took about 45 minutes of pounding through the crust to get to the barn after lunch. We lit a fire had a snort, TCOB then she took the hound and headed back for the house. I cleared and hopped in the "burb" and broke trail around the barn and then began to venture out. I made it down to the gravel and then blacktop but not to the house. Multiple attempts but came up short. I made 2 attempts up through the front pasture but didn't make it. Broke ice for several more rounds where I could and then hiked for the house. twice on my butt with the point of the cane driven into the ice to avoid sliding back to the bottom of the mountain and we are all warm and toasty. There will be a day when we can't, but not today. Tomorrow is another day.

Yeah the snow storm definitely missed the Southern Colorado Rockies.... This is this morning up there. I could drive the mile from the main road right to the cabin. Fire season could be bad!

We awoke to -1f today, up to 12 now @ 11am; that will likely be our high then fall off to -6 again by tomorrow morning. This would be dismal but for the good sun we've been having for days, it looks warmer out than it is though, the walk to the mail box and back is my measure of the day. Looks like by Sat we may break into the low-mid 20s and by Wed be might be pushing 30

Happy B-day gcrank1! We just made it back from town, the first trip since friday before last. I think I repaired chains 3 times yesterday breaking trail. I've just made the first hike back in with goodies, she is headed down for trip 2. I left the distillate down below, incentive to make the next trip
The next round is due overnight, oh joy.

Thanx! Our weather is looking much better, we've made 24f today and will upswing from that. Once we are at high 20's pretty steady overnight and 30's in the day we will make a cabin trip; we are both having withdrawal symptoms, lol.
