I built my cabin last year and I didn't properly clear out any trees. I hadn't thought much of it until we had some bad weather last year and trees came down everywhere. Luckily the cabin was safe during this time. I had a guy come and cut down some trees to be safe. One was practically hanging over the cabin. Anyhow, 1 out of 5 was so rotten inside. It was a surprise. It is pretty scary!

Depending on diameter of the hollowed out log , they are great in a camp fire. Once the fire is going set them in on a 45 angle. Eventually the convection will start drawing up , the fire will start swirling inside and then out the end. Pretty cool..

Turning them on the side and sticking some coals and burning wood inside (use a shovel) you can have your own little woodstove!
