Last night I had the heater on pilot (it is a vented model with a vent intake and out). Is it possible that mosquitos a coming in through there? We had an influx of them and I can't see how else they got in! If so, what does everyone else do about this problem?

the only way is through the hole you cut in the wall, not the vent itself. The burn chamber itself is fully sealed if it is a vented heater.
