Hello, I'm new to the site and fourms. Me and me two freinds really want to build a small cabin for this summer. The cabin will not be to the extent of your cabins (no electricity or running water), it will pretty much be a shack in the woods. The problem is that the lake were we want to build the cabin is owned by the goverment, we have seen signs that say no camping, no swimming, no unauthorized tree cutting. But everyone I talk to says it will be fine and we see people swimming and biking there too, but we have never seen anybody from the goverment. Keep in mind the cabin will be off the beaten path (ie, no cars can get there, you have to hike there) nobody will find it and nobody will see it. Also we can't buy and land, we can just afford the supplies. I hope you understand my situation and give some feedback ASAP.

Although I admire your desire for an outdoor cabin adventure,
you must realize that it is illegal to build a cabin on the land that is not yours.

Sooner or later you will be kicked out, probably charged, and you will loose $ on whatever you spend on materials.

My advise - don't do it.

Why don't you buy one of those "cabin" tents. Some of them even have wood heat for winter use. Some also have windows, even doors. You could set it up and remove it when needed.

One thing is for sure, unless your somewhere in the barrenlands of Canada, someone WILL find it.
