My place was simply built on the highest point on my property with a partial view of the hills and valley just down from it, so I came up with the simple and descriptive name "Lookout Ridge".

 We call our place

 Scatterlands farms

because we could only buy a few acres at a time [15 first time ] as other parcels came avalable we expanded and now have 250 acres
only problem we have a couple old timers who rather live out their lives surronded by us so we still are sort of scattered

 I call my camp:

 "Rag Ass Country"

My dads favorite saying was "that rag ass b**ch". He will always be missed.

Camp Crooked. When I built it 11 years ago I knew nothing about building, and as you can guess nothing is square

No cabin yet but a nice outhouse - we did not really intend to name an outhouse but our 5 year old kept talking about a "peter potter". We finally realized he was referring to to "Porta Potty". Since the land is in Quebec (French) we decided to name (and place a sign) on the outhouse - "Le Peter Potter".

Camp Crooked. I am no carpenter!! My dad scetched the building out on a piece fo notebook paper and off I went to build a camp. Not a square or straight wall in the place.

Our camp is called "Dajtcha" (the "j" is silent) and stands for D & J's Trout Camp Hide Away. Our cabin started out as "The Thinker's Box" because my wife asked for a more private placed for the girls to "do their thing" when nature called while we camped via the pop-up. But, since the "Thinker's Box" has now escalated to something much more than a mere latrine, we now refer to it as the "Shed Mahal"! LOL! Because, for intents and purposes, it is an over built, Ft. Knox of a utility shed. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

My Uncle Lloyd built the cabin and always had lots of family and friends up to the place. It was always just called "Uncle Lloyd's Cabin." I bought it from him two years ago now and we still refer to it as "Uncle Lloyd's"

My camp is called "BONLIEU". The spelling of the word in french. Here is my explanation. Where i have my camp (Kouchibougouak River N.B.)we have a total of 6 camps. When you arrive to our family resort the first camp that you see is mine and the rest of the camps are about 200' distanced from each other. In french "BONlieu"means the good spot but if you spell it "BANlieu" it means suburb so the name has 2 meanings. The GOODSPOT and THE SUBBURB. I had a newspaper reporter going around locking for different camp names and the meanings of the name and my camp made the clipping! We have 300 acres of land we all have solar panel systems and i installed a water system that supply the 6 camps. I've used an old teknowlogie from the 1700 for my water system and it works perfect! I had the chance to find an old "RAM PUMP". This pump was invented around 1792 by CHARLES MONGOLFIER (HE INVENTED THE HOT AIR BALOON) thanks to him i have running water

Quoting: Gary O ....did think about 'No Country for Old Men', but I'd miss the place too much..........Ha!
We unofficially call it "Job-site North", but I say "Windfall", not too far from a private (Rockefeller-owned) stream I'd love to canoe some day. Know any heirs?

We call our cabin "The Property". We just got so used to saying that and it stuck. It was a unanimous decision...

We named ours after one of our favorite programs and my English lineage (We would have been the maids and servants)
 Downton Cabby

I made up a sign that reflects our cabin, ponds and land that is posted with this title as you enter the lane to the cabin.
There's two other signs staged after this that read.
 "Servers of Fine Wine"
 Last sign reads
 "Did You Bring Any?"

At this point I'd call it "Blood Sweat and Tears", but once its done I'll call it "Home Sweet Home". I will cherish the bitter-sweet memory of standing in a trench trying to dig out a big rock and thinking I should be in Hawaii in a lawn chair with a daqueri in hand.
