What kind of Oakum should I get for between my logs? Should I get the dry or the oiled?

Thanks

A while back I was reading up online about 'chinking' because we wondered about using it on the now shrunk up sawmill boards that were used green on our place. There were a bunch of options but my impression was to stay away from the new-generation synthetic products.
Oakum certainly sounds traditional but I only remember it used by my dad 60yrs ago when he redid a cast iron sewer pipe.
Im thinking that Id be leery of the oiled as to how that might affect the logs taking stain or paint in the future?
