Hello,

Wood is coming in a couple of weeks and I'm have a hard time finding .131 ring shank nails (only 1.20).

My beam(s) will be 32 ft long. 3 ply 2x10, seams resting on support.

Planning on nailing (4) galvanized ring shank 1.20 every 12 inches, on both beam sides. There will be joist coming off the beam now so I was going to toss in 4 inch structural screws every 4 feet on the joist side (after joist are in so I don't put on on center somewhere by accident....) PL between boards as well.

Is this overkill?

I recently just did three 3ply 2x12 32' long girders for under my cabin. I used Fastenmaster head lock screws every 16in 2 per 16in spacing. There spec actualy says to do 3 rows every 16in. There cheaper in a large bucket than this 50pack but still not cheap.

Thanks - I thought about using only the screws but haven't found anything confirming sheer etc. Did you also glue?

No glue, no plywood between and nothing special. It only spans about 8' to the next sono tube.

Glue is a waste. If plywood spacers are needed to fit standard construction brackets just scab whatever is needed onto the outside of the beam.

Perfect - thanks. I think I will switch to 2x12 from 2x10 as well. My 8ft span looks rather close to the span limits.
