I’ve noticed a lot of people here arguing and being rather $hitty lately. This forum is here to help us all with something we love- building things and cabin life. I know I’ve learned a TON from others here and have hopefully helped a few others out as well. We all use this site for help and advice and I consider it a great resource.

Ask yourself why do you visit this site?

I personally LOVE seeing people embark on building new projects and updates/developments from others and their projects. I LOVE hearing about someone who is excited to build a new cabin and their plans/ideas.

Let’s remember that.

I’ve seen it quite a bit with newer participants that ask a question and are never heard from again because of the ensuing hailstorm.

If you want to internet shame other people for building questions or grandstand on a soapbox somewhere you can find plenty of other places to do that online.

Cabins are fun. Building is fun. Hard work in pursuit of a passion is fun. Let’s keep this place positive and remember why we log on.

Maybe I need to pay more attention, but I'm not seeing the same things you are.

Other than the people who ask a question, don't like the answer and keep trying to justify their plan. Eventually someone will call them out saying that they don't really want the right answer, just the OK that their plan will work. (which it won't safely). I don't see that as being mean, just a justified reality check.

Overall, this site is very fun and friendly, and one of my favourite sites and one of the few forums that has stayed positive.

I agree with FishHog and seen the same. Some people do show up thinking they have the right idea and are looking for Confirmation & Validation of their ideas and don't like it when they don't get the answer they want.

There's a heap load of Collective Experience here, including the screw-ups we've all made along the way. We all have Should've, Could've, Would've experiences in hindsight, which are valuable lessons to pass forward.

Grizzlyman, send me an email at davesc58@verizon.net and include the titles of the threads/posts where you have seen "lot of people here arguing and being rather $hitty".

I dont see or sense it....maybe it's because Ive been on some sites (and left some) that became, ummm, less than worth my time. Im jaded?
That said, with the New Year approaching, as Griz suggests this may be a good time to reflect on ourselves; Im reminded of,"we have no control how people act, only how we react" and "if we must err, err on the side of kindness".

Same here, I really haven't been seeing any really annoying behavior here, compared to a lot of other forums where people seem to start bickering every year once the weather turns cold.

This site is among the most respectful, knowledgeable, and supportive I've ever seen.

Happy New Year y'all!

As a very new member,I have only scratched the surface of this great community it seems pretty great to me. Wish I found it many years ago. Made mistakes in the past, some cost me double, some we still live with, and some probably haven't reared their ugly head yet. If only....

As I'm sitting at the table thinking about today's next steps for the latest cabin project ( stair banister replacement with custom shelves for additional storage ) I look forward to my future interactions here.

I have joined a few forum communities over the years. A tiny camper DIY site, (I built a tiny camper), a meat smoking forum, (smoking, grilling, cooking are one of my joys), and an astronomy forum, ( love looking at the stars), and a Jeep forum, ( gotta keep the wife's wrangler alive). The only one I stopped visiting almost immediately was the astronomy forum. Snobby crowd, you need to have industrial strength equipment or you're just not worth their time. ( you'd be reminded frequently how useless and inadequate your stuff was compared to what they had )

I don't get that vibe here! I'm fascinated with hillbilly engineering and like seeing the solutions people come up with.

Cheers!

I see folks that come n go. I'd guess that they can get a bit of too much detail at times and bail.
For me. I just do what I feel works best for me. Try and add things that haven't been mentioned. Foundations seem to propagate a lot of information. But folks are trying to help. I'm probably one of the ornery ones, I'll own it. But I love our cabin and wouldn't change a thing. And always dreaming about the next projects. Like always.
Told our son last night that we. Him n his sister are going to help get the sand point well done. And while I have an electric jack hammer for the well I want to drive pilings for a new dock. I'll have all the snogos ready and we can take the family's out. Just gotta get warmer than 20 below. Been a chilly icy winter, but we'll get there cabin style. Best opportunities that I get.
Hey folks hope you and yours all have a Blessed New Year. And lots of cabin time.

Just not seeing it either, nice wholesome bunch. Always has been. Maybe something was "perceived" when it really wasn't?
