Just wondering why everyone uses 15 lb felt paper on the outside wall and not use the 30 lb felt? Any info would be great!!
Thanks!

Tyvek or a similar material would be better than the felt paper and easier to apply because they come in 8ft rolls. It doesn't tear as easy as the felt paper does as well.

#30 felt is hard to handle for wall use. Heavy and difficult to work with around window and door cutouts. It does not bend or fold as readily when that is necessary.

I don't use any. There is no need with the new style shingles. I've built three thousand building and never had a leak.

Owen,
ps. 4/12 pitch or more and not along an ocean where huge winds might drive rain backwards. Most sights it isn't a problem.

we are talking about wrapping walls not roofing. i guess you could side with shingles

Ok, I guess I've never done that either. But I always use a plywood siding.

I've used 15 lb felt on everything from residences, storage sheds, horse sheds...Usually covered with plywood sheathing....
