We have decided to use cable railings on our front porch. Anyone have any experience with these, where to buy the cable cheap, etc.....?

A junk yard. I've used old guy-wire cable from electric poles for a railing. It doesn't rust.

The spacing is a little closer on cables than with solid infill, 3"
Oh, and Hi-tensile fence wire with turnbuckles is another way.

Building codes might not allow it because if horizontal, they are little ladders for little people to climb up and over.

I'm going to be doing this for my loft in the next few weeks... Already have lots of cable (3/16").
I'm just going to use a single cable binding u-clamp at the starting end and then just drill through the 4x4 posts (no fittings) and then finish off with a really small turnbuckle.
Will cost about $5 (not counting the posts)
Might use a pipe 1.5" pipe for the top row just to give it some stiffness and support anyone that may lean on it. Going this way to keep the lines of sight as open as possible without using glass.

I used 1/2" galvanized conduit and got the same effect and it was much cheap and easier to install.
