I replaced (wood) surround on base of pellet stove in lower level of our cabin any suggestions on seal or stain to protect wood?(in high traffic area that gets stepped on occasional)

Polyurethane, water or oil base is the toughest finish. I prefer the satin finish.

Thanks I think we have some Poly out there (cabin)
