I have knocked much the same idea around mainly because of heating and cooling issues with above ground cabins....looks very interesting, practical and relatively simple.

I wonder if they get big snow accumulation there and how they deal with it if so?
These modular domes are a cool idea for groundwater or bedrock challenged sites. URL

I wonder how many people fall into those holes. The concept is great, but it sure would be difficult to keep the "courtyards" clear of debris (snow, leaves, etc.)
Bill Lishman (aka Father Goose) built an underground home many years ago that I have always been fascinated with. http://www.thestar.com/life/homes/decor/2012/12/07/paula_lishman_and_bill_lishman_go_ underground.html He does warn that it was very expensive to build
