Hello. I'm looking for tips on addition to prefab cabin/shed with gambrel roof. Family is getting bigger and kids love being in the woods so here we go... I post some pictures how I want to do it and look for some input from experienced members here. The cabin is on skids and will be moved to a different spot soon. It is 10x20 (4 ft porch included). I want to add an addition on the side of it extending another 8 feet and 20 feet long. Did anyone here did anything like this? Is this the right concept? What do you think?
The pictures show a cabin a floor plan and a sketch of the addition. Sorry I did it quick on the phone.

I can't comment on the addition, but when we needed more room for the kids we chose building a bunkhouse instead. More privacy. Also then you can have guests up and they can have their own little place.

I put a storage locker on the side of mine. Its not as big as what you are doing, and its not 'connected' to the inside but it very close to what you show.
I guess I don't have any "finished" pics of it, but heres one before I put on the roof metal

have you considered a dogtrot style addition, maybe a hallway into another separate structure that could also be separated and moved easily.

I thought about it but I have a small wood stove and in the winter the heat distribution I'm afraid wont be that good. Just this weekend it supposed to be there in high 10's.

Hello, I found an old post on here from you. I am wondering if you ever solved the addition problem you had on your cabin. I am looking at expanding my cabin and have been running into roof pitch/snow load issues.
Thanks
Steve
