I'm going to help a friend build a little 16' x 16' cabin...he wants a rough hewn beam look inside. So I'll run the 4 x 10 rafter beams at 4 ft OC, or maybe 3', my mind says to build a 'purlin' system of 2 x 6's on top of the 2 x 10s...both to support the roof ply and also to add insulation..
Any other ideas?

Two purlins and a ridge beam. Bevel the edges of the purlins and beam to the roof pitch. Run TnG (1x6 or 1x8) down the rake of the roof, so they will be visible from inside. Good idea to finish TnG before install. Then build a roof of whatever thickness is desired on top of the TnG using 2x material on edge. We did similarly on our cabin except used 2x6 TnG because the span was almost 6 feet.
Just a thought.
