Small Cabin Forum / Cabin Construction / Building out over the footprint of the building (cantilever?)

I was told today, that in Ontario, the 108sqft applied to the footprint of the building.

So people build cantilevered sleeping area lofts.

Could you take this to the extreme? (using an engineer of course) and build a box ontop of a box?

9x12, across the 9ft length use 16ft lvls that would stick out 3.5ft? (use a lot of them).

Don't worry, not thinking of trying this... just wondering....

Looking at cantilever built seconds floors, this doesn't seem as insane as I initially thought. Doesn't seem that uncommon.

It's not something I would build, I'm all for KISS.

It's easy to cantilever the 2nd story, but the footprint applies to the structure as you look down from above, so you can't do this and comply anyway.....
