Anybody have views or experience with the idea of using the retail version of helical piles as a foundation system for a small cabin? It seems you'd save a mint over the Techno-metal type services if it were a viable solution. They are rated for up to 5,000 lbs.

I wouldn't use them. If you read the manufacture response to someone asking if they can put a 20x30 cabin on them they state you would need them every 4ft on the perimeter. That's roughly $1800 just for piles.
By there design I would think they don't have any uplift rating. Also 5,000lbs is the max load and they prob didn't measure that in soil/dirt.
Use sono tubes for a cabin foundation.
