So I have some copper flat bar that I might use for battery interconnects, but trying to calculate the gauge size. It measures 1/2 inch by 1/4 inch. By my calculations looks like just over a 3/0 gauge.

copper bar ampacity chart
The chart above has ampacity for a whole range of sizes of copper bar stock. If you do a search I'm sure you can find similar info for different sizes of copper or aluminum cable and wires.

ICC, thanks for the chart. looks like good for around 240 Amps, so my rough calculation was close.
