Mounting a couple of panels on my roof. Just asking what everyone thinks about the mount position. Closer to the ends or middle? Thanks

When I did mine I put the mounts in at 1/4 of the length on each end; figured it would support the center well enough and the cantilever wouldn't be too bad.
 No 'engineering' involved.....

Center of roof to the ground! Kidding, that’s my main array on the storage shed. Got a few more on the cabin roof, just enough room to walk down the top center, no eve overhang, not that it would matter. Porch overhang is just panels, just wood frame under.

My panels came with a fairly detailed instruction set showing the manufacturers designed positions for mounting the panels using several different arrangements depending on the rails or clips being used. The older cabin panels had a smaller range of allowable positions than the more recent panels for our home. My understanding is that the engineers specify points that maintain best strength for resisting wind, hail and snow loads.

If you look for the datasheet on the panels it will detail what is supported by the manufacturer!

Usually mounting through the holes in the back of the frame requires 8 mounting points. 4 mount points is only supported if using clips that wrap around the frame and hold from the front. (However, it does depend on the panel size).

Of course many people don't follow those instructions and are fine for years.

To your question. I would use the 2 mounts in the middle.
