We have our shell up and dried in, no insulation yet, I used a kerosene stove with windows cracked and stayed comfy but still undecided on permanent source. 12x28 cabin off grid

I'm going to use a small propane furnace. I've been advised that something around 50000 btu. I see Mr Heater makes same for around $600. Wife can't handle wood smoke...my loss!
I also priced out Napoleon which is 97 per cent efficient///might be worth the extra coin, can't remember difference.

We have 1/2" pex running through a concrete slab. It is fired by an on-demand water heater.

We also have a direct vent gas log fireplace. It takes the chill out and looks nice. I was hoping for a woodstove, but wife also didn't like the idea of smoke smell.

Last year we spent $340 total in gas going this route.

Wood stove only in our 22x26' log cabin. It heats really well (sometimes have to open the loft windows to cool off) and there is no smoke smell.

I lived in a 10x14 low wall storage shed last winter, heated it with a volgelzag (sp?) boxwood stove from harbor freight, little cast iron stove i got for $90 on clearance. very small but keeps the tiny building warm. I just moved into a larger 12x20 palacial high wall storage shed and moved the stove into it. i put cinder block on 3 sides with 4 inch gaps to act as a heat shield and a heat sink (warm concrete/stone radiates heat all night), also keep a 55 gallon barrel full of water next to it (near the kitchen sink) a barrel of warm water also helps radiate heat, in event of fire i have 55 gallons to put it out with.

Cabin, small trash burner style woodstove. Cabin is well insulated, top to bottom, a small fire runs you out of there. Thank goodness I have plenty of windows to open.
