I thought I'd pick your brains again...I'm seeking to build a cabin (3 hours away)that collects rainwater and stores it in a 100 gallon tank. That way, in theory, I should have plenty of water for my needs when I get there. However, there may be weeks or even months in between visits. The water is for showers, flushing, etc, not drinking. Is there something I need to do, besides using darkly colored barrels, to treat the water so it doesn't get stagnent? Any help is appreciated!

here is a good vid on treating raw water. http://www.doh.wa.gov/Emergencies/EmergencyPreparednessandResponse/Factsheets/WaterPu rification.aspx
I put in 8 ounces of clorox to a full 250 gallon tank of creek water. You should just detect the smell of clorine in the water.(Not For Drinking or Cooking)For small amounts of water for that,I use a twin filter Berkey filtering system,or just bring pottable water with you.
