I've aquired a new plot for my hunting camp, and will be building a hunting cabin. The fellar that had the place before, ran his wiring from a generator shed to a central location and then plugged in what he needed to use at the time. I will be re doing that portion into a Electrical panel and use switches. My question is that on my electric start generator. Can the wiring be extended 25 - 30 feet and have another switch placed in the cabin to start the generator instead of walking out to the shed to start it ?

I have a Honda EU6500is with electric start and it has a remote feature for starting. It just plugs in and you can go a long ways away. But the starter current isnt carried through the switch wire, the switch wire just runs a relay, so technically, you should be able to run it a long ways depending on how the wiring in the generator is set up, ie does the switch carry the load or does it control a relay that carries the load. If the switch carries the load, not doable, unless you add a relay so the switch will just operate the relay. plus the typical on/off switch.

What make and model is the gennie?

If you already have the generator this may not be of much value, but for others that may read this thread I picked up a big wattage, not-as-good-as-a-Honda Champion generator that I (mostly) leave at the cabin. It's big, heavy, noisy but has one very redeeming feature... an infra-red wireless remote! I can aim the remote through the window from inside the cabin and press the start button and it fires right up. I don't know how far it's good for, but I've tested it to 120 feet and it works without issue.

I suspect more generators may move to this, so in the future if you ever look for a new generator you may consider adding that to your "must have" list.
