 Long story short, I don't have many options for a large cistern and really don't need one. It's just me and my wife at the cabin every other weekend and this will be for showers and dish washing etc. I'd like to bury a 40 or 50 gallon tank to use but there isn't anything commercial that I've seen. Anyone have a small set up like this they want to share?

 I don't know about burying them, but RV tanks are available in all sort of sizes and shapes. Plastic 55 gal drums that are food grade could work out also.

 Here's the smallest underground plastic cistern offered by Norwesco via Tank Depot, 325 gallon;

 As you are probably aware buried tanks have to be designed not to collapse from dirt when empty

 Good luck

 They also should be accessible for cleaning and maintenance down the road.

 I've seen storage tanks on sale @ TSC for very reasonable prices... They carry both white or black pigmented polyethylene tanks.
