 Looking for new options.

I currently have a pellet stove for my heat source.

The pellet stove will only last 24 hours max and takes 12+ hours to get the place up to temperature, I am thinking about looking into a propane heater/furnace where I can leave the heat 45 - 50 during the winter when were not there.

The cabin is built on a slab so installing duck work will be very difficult, also I don't have much room for a large furnace.

A direct vent propane wall furnace may be one way to go. I have one as a backup to my wood stove. Quick heat while I get the wood stove going and using it with a thermostat means I don't get up at four anymore to throw a log on.

They really don't take much space and duct intake and exhaust air right through the wall. No ductwork for distribution required. Mine's a Housewarmer but I see they don't make them anymore but there's several other manufactures.

Depending on the size of your cabin, two wall mount direct vent propane heaters might be in order. One in the back bedroom and one in the main living area near the stove. Just a thought.

I've been eying these up for the same reasons.

Thinking of building a cabin on a slab, wood stove for heat, so it would be nice to have backup heat once the wood stove dies out, and/or auxillary heat for initial heat-up.

Wilbour. You could check around. Propanedepot carries them.

Google Escabe. They are the original mfct.

I use the previous generation (8&13k btu). The new generation looks a little nicer and I suppose there are some improvements.

I really like them. Even the 8k unit had modulating flame by the time I bought. And they're 3 and 4 years old now and still work nicely.

The williams a buddy of mine has. It has the advantage of a fan that increases efficiency. With the electric draw as the downside of that.

He's had trouble with the thermostat.

But I'll tell ya. It's nice to have the stoves on 50 and come in, light the wood stove and be toasty an hour later. Rather than later the next morning.

TSC stores claim to still sell the propane version. I pass the one in Smiths Falls on the way to and from the cabin.

 You could look here: http://dickinsonmarine.com/product_cat/propane-fireplace-heaters/
Not cheap but very nice look and pretty popular for tiny homes.
They can heat up to 12x12 cabins.
