We have some growing on the property. I had my granddaughters cut cane poles for fishing. My late wife always preferred fishing with one, so the kids are excited to be making their own like g ma. Anyhoos, there is a patch growing right by the driveway. Last weekend there were new ones spouting up. I could literally touch the top of the tallest one. Yesterday I noticed it all had grown a lot in a week. I went to the shop and got a tape measure. It was 115 inches tall. That's a lot of growth in a week. Today, I measured the very same one. Basically 24 hours later. It was a little over 123 inches. Wow. I knew bamboo grows fast. But I thought a couple inches per day was the norm. I wouldn't believe it if I didn't measure it myself. I hate the way this site post pics. There is a 4 wheeler in the bottom of the photo!

The new neighbor cut a patch and burned the tops and small stuff over the weekend. It sounded like packs of firecrackers going off. The previous neighbor planted it as a screen a decade or so ago and it was spreading. I'm a fan of native river cane but am not a fan of invasive bamboo. My first experience as a teenager, we were hired to clear it from a yard, it had run the entire block. When we turned around it was 3' tall behind us. Related to the ticks and tall grass comment in another thread. One of the guys didn't spray his boots and pant legs at first. He pulled 5 ticks after a couple of hours in the patch. He took the good sized poles for building a fence around their pool. I'm guessing the deer were hanging out in the patch especially during the ice storm.
