I believe that would be a stone facade, a veneer of relatively thin stone attached to the wood stick frame structure similar to how brick walls are constructed. The stone may even be manufactured stone and attached to the sheathing with adhesives. Given the number of windows and absence of shear brace wall space there may be some steel in there. Very likely an engineer involved.
Impressive appearance.

As they should be; same as with lap siding, stucco, and so on. The stone, lap siding, stucco, etc. are simply the cosmetic finish to the structural wall.

Tools: tape measure, level, drill, grinder.
Step 1 : Housewrap
Step 2 : Starter strip ( metal bracket )
Step 3 : Corners first
Step 4 : Fill
Everything is secured with stainless steel clips & screws. Incredibly simple.
