Hello all. I have really enjoyed everyones projects and am excited to start my own. Getting the site ready now.
Going with the 18' by 28' version. Will be changing the floorplan to allow for a bedroom w/ kingbed. The hot tub will probably have to go :( Nice place for a breakfast nook though. I am going to incorporate a loft and some skylights to make it feel larger. I had considered a dormer but not sure if it would fit with the plan.
This will become my full time home. Tired of paying rent and mowing someone elses lawn. Cabin Exterior

My property is 5 acres 330' by 660'. There is a dug well and power at the road. I have a 2 car garage with unfinished apartment but will be converting the apartment to an office for my business.
I am currently working on getting power ran underground to the cabin site. If you have done this yourself please check in and offer advice in my other thread.URL
The land is mostly young forest. It is in upstate New York. Will take some pics and post them.

I am also building a smaller cabin for my mother. Probably skip the loft and just have cathedral ceilings. I am going to connect the two with a deck of some sort. Getting ahead of myself but hopefully winter will not invade before I get a good start.
Pics of the cabin. The actual cabin photo was found online. Exterior

Welcome to the forum skinnersone. Always nice to have yet another upstate NYer join in. We are numerous here, it seems. Our place is in Blue Mtn Lake. Kinda jealous of the full time living here thing. Hope you own a snowmobile! :) bob

Thanks, no snowmobile yet. I am still working on a 4-wheeler to get around the land.
I grew up in the Adirondacks and am happy to be back after 10 years in Florida. Upstate NY is beautiful. And I am just outside the ADK Park so I have pretty easy regulations/inspectors.

Our cabin is just outside the ADK park as well. In St. Lawrence County. Main reason we chose that location is because of the lack of regulations.
Its hard to pass wind in the park without the proper paperwork!

Hmmmmm, Franklin County. I'll be camping in Chateaugay/Churubusco area in a few weeks. Love it there!

Hmmmm, When I moved back from Florida I got a place on Chateaugay Lake for the winter. Currently rent a place down the road about 2 miles. It is on the river. If you walk the river to the left takes you to High Falls Park (if you know it), if you go right it takes you to Chateaugay Lake. I love the area.
I should post up some of my landlords cabins and mini barns. Hobby farmers I guess you could call them. I love it here but can't wait to move into my own cabin. Enjoy your trip.

Skinnerone, I built that exact cabin but didn't do the upstairs. (Whitehorse) and it turned out nice. See it in "My Project". I have it all detailed from start to finish with pictures.

I *thought* that lovely cabin looked a bit familiar! toyota_mdt_tech did a fabulous job on his! Do check it out!
Welcome to the forum! I totally hear you about moving back to the north (and real forests!). I'm from Pennsylvania originally and have lived in Texas for 21 years. But since just about all of my family is gone now, I'm moving north to the other coast to build my cabin in Oregon.
Your plans are wonderful! Just a point of interest -- are you going to have that "living roof" on your cabin? I love those!

Good eye, Popeye! How did it wind up at the top of the forum being 5 years old?
