I am new to this forum, and find this site very helpful. I have been planning my own 16x20. This is going to be a family project with a lot of used materials. Cabin will be light, no loft, and 20 spf. I want use 12 total piers, in 3 rows, spaced 80" apart, and the center row will be at 8'. I am going to dig to frost depth for my footer, and bring sono tubes up to a few inches past grade. Then set 6x6 posts on top. I will use Simpson Strong Tie Brackets for all my hardware connections. I am planning on a 16"x16"x8" footer reinforced with #4 rebar, then #4 rebar running up through the sonotube. My question is, is an 8" sonotube to small of a bearing space for my 6x6 post? Should I use 10", or even 12". Less concrete the better. Wanted to ask, everyone seems very knowledgeable here, thought maybe someone could help ease my concerns. I have been planning on the 8" all along, now worried I should go up in size. Any help would be great. I plan on bracing this cabin well, I have seen a lot of great examples here on the site.
