Just started a camp in western Newfoundland. Going to try and get it shelled in before the snow flys. Will throw up some snaps of the process if anyone is interested. Cheers

Sounds great!!! I'm sure there are lots here who will want to watch your progress with this (me included)! How big will it be? On grid/off grid? Will it be strictly a camp or will you eventually live there full time?

Is it warm there now? What temperatures do you see as a range during the daylight throughout the summer...and winter? Like in Ohio during the summer the temp. Range is normally 60's through the90's and in the winter it's normally in the 20's through the high thirties, with some single digit temps mixed in. I know the winters in Newfoundland canbe brutal! Will your cabin be built of PT (pressure treated) posts in the ground or another foundation source?

Since you are just getting started, I recommend that you get a journal and start writing your journey NOW and let others write their experiences while at your cabin. Good luck and let's see some pictures!

Have a fun time maddaddam , this is about the same time I started mine in 2013. I was in a rush with the cold coming also but the fall is a nice time to be working on a cabin. Good Luck and hope to see lots of pics.

Thanks By's

I will be heading back out this weekend and will take some snaps to keep everyone updated and get some opinions/advice.

The camp will be 20x20. It will be off grid as there it is out in the sticks. Right now it will be just a camp, as the only access in winter will be via sled. I have built a shed already, so that will help keep some tools and supplies out of the weather.

A for the weather here, the summers can range from 10 c to 30 c. The winters are all over the place, last year was brutal, lots of snow, and and too many -30 days. the weather right now is again all over the place, one day its plus 15 the next its hailing.

As for the foundation, I was going to use sauna tubes but the ground is way too rocky and has some large boulders. I purchased some re-bar reinforced patio stones. I will be laying concrete blocks three high on top of the block and reinforcing them with re bar and cement. that on top of that I will lay my stringers. I wanted it a little high off the ground so I will not have to dig a snow tunnel to the door in the winter.

Thanks for the interest. Snaps to come soon I promise
