I have another of John Seymour's books - A Concise Guide to Self Sufficiency and it is an excellent reference. Some good stuff in there ranging from sowing seeds, raising chickens to making your own beer. Highly recommend it even for the urban dwellers.

This looks like a very good book with some very practical information.

My wife and I visited her father over the Thanksgiving holidays and he and I got to talking about things like butchering hogs and so on and I realized how in the past, most everyone knew how to do these things and now, almost no one knows how to do them. Our children think that pork chops come from the grocery store and don't think much beyond that.

If there ever came a time when we all needed to be self sufficient again, most people would be in sorry shape.

Up until the past couple of years, I fell into the group that would be in bad shape but I have made a point of learning as much about these old time skills as I could.

Thanks for sharing this. Been wanting to read something along these lines. The fact that it's a PDF file allows me to keep it on the computer for future reference too.

I added it in my Amazon cart. Digital version is nice, but I like old school paper books that need no electronics or electricity to read. Thanks for the link/idea.
